The Writings of Johanna J. Haver
Johanna Haver is the author of Structured English Immersion (Corwin Press,2003), English for the Children (Rowman & Littlefield, 2013), the online biography of Arizona architect Bennie Gonzales (Modern Phoenix, 2014), and Vindicated: Closing the Hispanic Achievement Gap Through English Immersion (Rowman & Littlefield, 2018). In addition, she has written articles for the Arizona Republic, the East Valley Tribune, and the San Francisco Journal.
Haver has 32 years of teaching experience in the areas of German, Latin, reading, English, and English as a second language in K-12 and at the university level. She taught English as a visiting teacher at a Gymnasium in Essen-Steele, Germany, for one year and as a Phoenix Sister City teacher at a high school in Himeji, Japan, for two years.
Haver has been a member of the Maricopa County Communty College District Governing Board from January 2015 to January 2019. She lives in Phoenix with her husband Lloyd Engel, a retired architect.
